At Dayton First Church, we believe there is more to life than what we can see in front of us. We believe that God created you with purpose, loves you deeply, and desires a relationship with you through Jesus Christ. No matter your story, your struggles, or your past, the grace of Jesus is available to you. Following Jesus begins with a simple “yes” — trusting Him with your heart and your life. Our prayer is that you would experience the hope, freedom, and transformation found in His love and continue growing in relationship with Him each day.
Salvation Is the Beginning of New Life
Salvation is about so much more than simply getting into Heaven someday. It is the beginning of a real relationship with Jesus that transforms the way we live here and now. When we choose to follow Him, we are surrendering our lives into His hands and recognizing that we were never meant to do life on our own. Following Jesus means trusting Him to lead, guide, and shape who we are becoming.
The good news of the gospel is that salvation is not something we earn. It is a gift of God’s grace, freely given through Jesus Christ. We could never deserve it, and we could never work enough to achieve it on our own. Because salvation is rooted in God’s grace and faithfulness, we can rest in the assurance of His love and presence in our lives.
As Romans 8:38–39 reminds us, nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God found in Christ Jesus our Lord. His love is constant, secure, and greater than any fear, failure, or struggle we may face.
Common Questions
Salvation is not something we can earn through good works, church attendance, or trying harder to be a better person. It is a gift of God’s grace made possible through Jesus Christ. We are saved when we place our faith in Jesus, believe in His death and resurrection, and choose to follow Him with our lives.
The gospel reminds us that no one can save themselves. Jesus has already done the work for us through the cross. Our response is simply to trust Him, surrender our lives to Him, and receive the grace He freely offers.
As Ephesians 2:8–9 says, “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Following Jesus is more than a one-time decision, it is the beginning of a lifelong relationship with God. As you continue walking with Him, your faith will grow through prayer, reading Scripture, worship, and living in community with other believers. God does not expect you to figure everything out overnight. Step by step, the Holy Spirit works within you, shaping your heart, strengthening your faith, and guiding you into the life God created you to live.
Every person needs the hope and grace found in Jesus. God’s desire is for all people to know Him and experience the new life He offers through salvation. No one is too far gone, too broken, or beyond the reach of His love. Scripture reminds us that God is patient and full of mercy, longing for people to turn to Him and find life. As 2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is… patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
Repentance is more than simply feeling bad about our sin. It is a genuine turning of the heart toward God. It begins with recognizing our need for His grace and choosing to walk away from the old ways that pull us from Him. True repentance leads to transformation as God begins shaping our thoughts, desires, and actions to reflect His will. As Acts 3:19 reminds us, repentance is an invitation to turn to God and experience renewal and restoration.
At our church, we believe that salvation is found through faith in Jesus Christ and that God is faithful to sustain those who continue to trust in Him. Scripture also teaches that people have the freedom to turn away from God through deliberate and continual rejection of His grace. Rather than living in fear, believers are called to remain rooted in Christ, growing in faith, obedience, and relationship with Him. As Hebrews 6:4–6 reminds us, our walk with God is meant to be a living and ongoing relationship of faith.
