What we believe the
Bible teaches about
generosity and stewardship
At Dayton First Church, we believe that everything we have ultimately belongs to God. Our time, gifts, finances, opportunities, and resources are not simply ours to keep, but ours to steward faithfully for His Kingdom and His glory.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to live with open hands, recognizing that God entrusts us with resources not only to meet needs today, but to make an eternal impact for generations to come. Stewardship is more than finances; it is a posture of faithfulness, trust, and obedience.
Scripture reminds us:
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
“Every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” — Psalm 50:10
We believe God honors faithful stewardship. When we faithfully care for what He has already placed in our hands, we position ourselves to be used for even greater Kingdom impact. Our desire is not to build our own kingdom, but to invest our lives into what God is doing in Dayton, in families, and in future generations as we seek and lead people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
At Dayton First Church, we believe the Kingdom of God is always bigger than the moment we are living in right now. We do not give, serve, and invest simply for temporary results; we invest with eternity in mind.
We are not merely maintaining a building or funding ministries. We are investing into people. Into marriages. Into children and students. Into transformed lives. Into the hope of the Gospel reaching our city and future generations.
Jesus reminds us:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” — Matthew 6:19–20
And Scripture teaches:
“Whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” — 2 Corinthians 9:6
We believe true significance is found not in what we accumulate for ourselves, but in how we help lead others toward Jesus Christ. Every act of generosity, every moment of service, and every investment into God’s Kingdom has eternal value.
When we give faithfully, we participate in something far greater than ourselves. Lives are changed. Families are restored. Faith is passed on. The Gospel moves forward. That is the kind of eternal impact that matters most, and why every person’s part in the mission matters.
The tithe is more than a financial practice; it is an act of trust and worship. The word tithe literally means “tenth.” Whether someone earns little or much, the principle remains the same: the first 10% belongs to God. We are not simply giving God a portion of what is ours; we are returning to Him what already belongs to Him.
When we place God first, we acknowledge that He is our provider and sustainer. Tithing is not ultimately about money — it is about trust, obedience, and surrender. It is a declaration that God has first place in our hearts, our homes, and our priorities. Scripture continually shows that when God’s people trust Him first, He blesses what remains.
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty… — Malachi 3:10
“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing…” — Proverbs 3:9–10
“Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always.” — Deuteronomy 14:23
The tithe is not about subtraction; it is about Kingdom multiplication. Obedience opens the door for God to work through our lives in ways that impact both the present and eternity.
At the same time, we recognize that Jesus calls His followers to an even deeper level of surrender. Under the Old Covenant, the tithe established a baseline of generosity. But Jesus consistently pointed beyond percentages and toward wholehearted devotion. He did not simply call people to give 10%; He called them to give Him everything.
Jesus said:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” — Luke 9:23
In Acts, the early church modeled radical generosity:
“All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need.” — Acts 2:44–45
Paul echoed this same spirit when he wrote:
“You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Because of the financial structure of the world we live in, we believe the tithe remains a biblical and practical starting point for faithful generosity. But it should never become the ceiling of generosity. For the follower of Jesus, generosity is not measured merely by percentages, but by a heart fully surrendered to God. Tithing is the foundation — a first step of trust — while a life of radical generosity becomes the ongoing posture of a disciple fully devoted to Christ.

Tithing is the recognition that everything we have is from God. Through giving the first 10% of our income to the local church, we acknowledge that the 100% came from God’s goodness.
What is Kingdom Builders?
A Kingdom Builder is not just a program; it is a person. Kingdom Builders are individuals and families who choose to live with radical generosity by giving above and beyond their tithe to help expand the mission of Jesus through Dayton First Church. Through their generosity, lives are impacted locally, nationally, and globally as we work together to build the Kingdom one life at a time.
What is Legacy Week?
Legacy Week is a once-a-year opportunity for every person at Dayton First Church to come together through worship, generosity, sacrifice, and vision to help move the mission of our church forward.
Throughout the week, we gather for worship experiences, guest speakers, missionary stories, prayer, and vision casting as we celebrate what God is doing locally, nationally, and globally through Kingdom Builders.
Through giving above and beyond our regular tithe, we invest in initiatives that will impact lives, families, and future generations for years to come — building a legacy that outlives us.
